NACHTBRAKERS/NIGHT PEOPLE
Together with freelance journalist Mirella van Markus I am working on a project about night people. Our goal is to portray people who live their live during night time. The approach will be multi medial. We are working on a book and a TV documetary series. The book will be published by Nieuw Amsterdam Publishers in 2010.

NEW PROJECT ABOUT INLAND SHIPPING
I am currently working on a new project about Inland Shipping. I've had this idea about
documenting families who live and work their entire live on these fascinating ships for some time now.
The private domains on board have my interest. Especially ship types like the Kempenaar have fascinating interior architecture on board.

Group exhibition 'PORTRAITS' at galerie Bart Amsterdam 19 02 09 / 28 03 09

2 photos from the series HAFABRA PORTRAITS will participate in this group show together with work from Petra Stavast and Hanneke van Leeuwen. Claudia Küssel (Dutch Photo museum Rotterdam) wil open the exhibition.

Solo exhibition 'SHOPKEEPERS' at galerie Bart Amsterdam 02 05 08 / 07 06 08

INVITATION
It is with great pride and pleasure that Galerie Bart is inviting you to the opening of the solo exhibition 'Shopkeepers' by photographer Niels Helmink on Saturday 3 May from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. In his series 'Shopkeepers', photographer Niels Helmink (1976) portrays the disappearing class of authentic local merchants. The photos show the shopkeepers in the interiors of their shops, some of which are still in use, others of which have closed under pressure of the large chain stores. Helmink affords the viewer one last look before they fade into history. Niels Helmink graduated in 2002 from the Technical College in Ede (majoring in photography). Since then he has worked for Erwin Olaf, first as an assistant and later as technical manager, in addition to doing his autonomous work. Merel Bem (Freelance art and photography critic ) will open the exhibition.
The exhibition in Galerie Bart features a selection from the entire series of photographs
presented in the book Shopkeepers, which includes introductory essays by Merel
Bem (Freelance art and photography critic) and Emile van Binnebeke (head
of collections for the Museum of Modern Art, Arnhem).
The first copy of the book will be presented to photographer Erwin Olaf at the opening.
